7 beautiful places near Rome
Do you want to take a few days to spend as a couple? Within a short distance from the capital city there are very nice villages full of attractions to visit, restaurants to try, and magical places. Here is our selection of beautiful and romantic places near Rome.
Fairytale Land
An hour and a half drive from Rome is the small hamlet of Sant’Angelo, in the province of Viterbo, also nicknamed the Land of Fairy Tales. In fact, just walking through the narrow streets of this magical village will be enough to feel like you are in an animated film. The idea of beautifying the place with murals originated from the Cultural Association of Arts and Entertainment (2016) and today has been a great success all over the world. We also recommend embarking on the “Fairy Tale Castles Trail” to learn about the neighboring villages.
Santa Severa
Castles always have their charm, especially if they overlook the sea. This is the case with the Castle of Santa Severa, a 14th-century fortress located in the hamlet of Santa Severa in the municipality of Santa Marinella. This manor always holds very interesting events, and there is also a hostel inside. Well sleeping in a castle kissed by seawater is not for everyone….
Frascati
It is one of the most beautiful and most romantic Castelli Romani. Frascati offers crazy views of Rome and many spots to admire the magic of the night: villa Torlonia, the Belvedere promenade , piazza San Rocco. In addition, there are many quaint and intimate little restaurants in town. Ideal for an evening by candlelight, eating traditional Roman and Frascatan dishes. We also recommend a day trip to the Tusculum Cultural Archaeological Park, you will find a picnic area with a barbecue area.
Castel Gandolfo
From the city we move on to the beautiful landscape filled with the beauty of Lake Albano. Just bring a towel, buy two sandwiches with the mythical porchetta at one of the lakefront bar restaurants and some music. The rest is taken care of by the enchanting natural landscape surrounding the volcanic lake in the Castelli Romani area.
Anguillara Sabazia
Anguillara Sabazia is a quaint village overlooking the lake of Bracciano. It is located within the Bracciano-Martignano Regional Natural Park and offers wonderful views of the freshwater mirror.
Being less well known than Bracciano, it is an ideal destination for those looking for places that are not too crowded and more intimate. In addition, its proximity to Rome (just over 30 km) makes it possible to take day trips out of town without having to sleep a night out.
Sperlonga
The pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea is truly worth visiting. Its small white houses overlooking the sea are a must-see at least once in a lifetime. To admire the view from the village, just climb a few steps (it’s all uphill) and you get to the center where you find places for an aperitif, ice cream parlors, and restaurants. In summer, the sea is a spectacle!
Nemi
Nemi has been voted one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Famous for its wild strawberries, this place is actually worth discovering all year round. In fact, the view of the lake makes everything more romantic. Some restaurants have magical views. A candlelight dinner? Or ice cream in the narrow streets of the village?
