The country of porchetta, exported all over the world, is not far from Rome. The village of Ariccia is quaint and makes for a relaxing weekend of good food and wine. If you are in the mood for a nice traditional lunch, you must pay a visit to the famous and fun fraschette.
Since 1950, on the first weekend of September, the fantastic Porchetta Festival has been held: a great festival with music, booths and exhibitions. Ariccia is not the only town to visit, on the Castelli Romani territory there is also the charming town of Frascati, if you like the idea of going to a quaint tavern and want to make the most of the weekend.
But let’s get down to business: here are (in our opinion) the best fraschette in Ariccia:
Dar Burino Fraschetta
This historic fraschetta in Ariccia is among the largest in town, accommodating up to 450 diners in its four interior rooms. During warm weather you can also eat outside. It offers a set menu of up to 25 euros per person: appetizer, first course, main course, bread, wine and water. There are also gluten-free alternatives. But it didn’t end there.
This fraschetta hides a special room that can also be booked for special occasions, such as a bachelorette party. If birthdays are held with more than 15 people, the birthday boy or girl does not pay and sparkling wine is provided. You will find penis-shaped coat hangers and other “sexy” items. We recommend reserving a table in advance because it is quite well-known.
Where: Via dell’Uccelliera, 44/50, 00072 Ariccia. Phone number: 333 1828584.
Fraschetta Sora Lella
Sora Lella’s fraschetta, not to be confused with the restaurant on Tiber Island, is one of the oldest in Ariccia. In our opinion, besides the legendary porchetta, the first courses are really delicious. Enjoy a nice plate of fettuccine with mushrooms or eat the legendary carbonara. A gluten-free or vegetarian menu is also offered here. In summer you can eat outside.

Osteria Dar Vignarolo
The Osteria dal Vignarolo, also frequented by some famous people, offers the typical appetizers of the area (cold cuts, cheeses, porchetta), home cooking, barbecued meat, and homemade desserts. As in other fraschette, you will also find “Romanella,” the famous red wine of the Castelli Romani. A set menu is provided during the week
15 euros with appetizer and first course and 20 euros with appetizer and second course, excluding drinks. Recommended dish: cacio e pepe in the form of pecorino cheese.
Where: Via Strada Nuova, 97, Ariccia. Phone number: 06.9332460.
Osteria “Dar Matriciano”
Lovers of fantastic amatriciana cannot fail to make a stop at this tavern. In addition to the main course, you can also taste carbonara and “gnocchetto dar matriciano.” The traditional appetizer (15 euros) includes typical cold cuts, porchetta d’Ariccia and cheeses. Also worth trying are the fabulous “carbobombette” and meatballs all’amatriciana.
Then, Nutella or pistachio pinsa to end the meal on a high note. In short, forget about dieting for a day! The average price per person is 20 euros.
Where: Via Borgo S. Rocco, 24, 00072 Ariccia. Phone number: 334 159 4635.
Aricciainbocca
Aricciainbocca is another fraschetta to try. The dishes are plentiful and the appetizer (19 euros per person) is really rich: it includes cold and hot dishes. Skewer with scamorza and guanciale, stew, baked chicken wings with peppers, buffalo mozzarella, porchetta di Ariccia IGP, ricotta, focaccia with mortadella, etc.
Among the first courses we recommend trying the porchetta ravioli with gorgonzola, radicchio and walnuts. Very nice idea to bring to the table the tiramisu in the coffee machine. Average cost per person: 40 euros. To conclude: good quantity-quality-price ratio.
