The town of porchetta, exported all over the world, is not far from Rome. The village of Ariccia is quaint and makes for a relaxing weekend of good food and wine. If you are in the mood for a nice traditional lunch, you must pay a visit to the famous and fun fraschette.
Since 1950, on the first weekend of September, there is the fantastic Sagra della Porchetta: a great festival with music, stands and exhibitions. Ariccia is not the only town to visit, on the territory of the Castelli Romani there is also the charming town of Frascati, if you like the idea of going to eat in a characteristic osteria and want to enjoy the weekend to the fullest.
But let’s get down to business: here are (in our opinion) the best fraschette in Ariccia:
Dar Burino Fraschetta
This historic fraschetta in Ariccia is among the largest in town, seating up to 450 diners in its four interior rooms. During warm weather you can also eat outdoors. It offers a set menu of up to 25 euros per person: appetizer, first course, main course, bread, wine and water. There are also gluten-free alternatives. But it doesn’t end there.
This fraschetta hides a special room that can also be booked for special occasions, such as a bachelorette party. If you have birthdays with more than 15 people, the birthday boy or girl does not pay, and sparkling wine is provided. You will find penis-shaped hangers and other “sexy” items. We recommend reserving a table in advance, as it is quite well-known.
Where: Via dell’Uccelliera, 44/50, 00072 Ariccia. Phone number: 333 1828584.
Fraschetta Sora Lella
Fraschetta della Sora Lella, not to be confused with the restaurant at Isola Tiberina, is one of the oldest in Ariccia. In our opinion, besides the legendary porchetta, the pasta dishes are truly delicious. Enjoy a nice plate of fettuccine with mushrooms or have the legendary carbonara. A gluten-free or vegetarian menu is also offered here. In summer you can eat outside.
Where: Via dell’Uccelliera, 00072 Ariccia. Phone number: 06 933 1990.
Osteria Dal Brigante Gasperone
This osteria serves hearty, quality dishes, such as pappardelle al cinghiale in bianco and ricottine con noci. The ambiance is goliardic and cozy, and the appetizer is popular with customers: bruschetta porchetta, cured meats, frittata, meatballs, cheeses, bacon, rolls, sausages, stuffed peppers and spicy olives.
Where: Via Borgo S. Rocco, 7. Phone: 06 933 3100.
La Selvotta
This fraschetta is nestled in the green of a forest of centuries-old chestnut trees. It is famous for its bucatini all’amatriciana, homemade bread and hand-sliced ham. The setting is surrounded by nature and somewhat reminiscent of picnics in the park. You can safely bring your dogs because it is outdoors.
Where: Via Selvotta, 43. Phone: 06 932 4521.
Osteria Dar Vignarolo
The Osteria dal Vignarolo, also frequented by some famous people, offers the typical appetizers of the area (cold cuts, cheeses, porchetta), home cooking, barbecued meat and homemade desserts. As in other fraschette, you will also find “Romanella,” the famous red wine of the Castelli Romani. During the week there is a set menu
at 15 euros with appetizer and first course and at 20 euros with appetizer and second course, excluding drinks. Recommended dish: cacio e pepe in the form of pecorino cheese.
Where: Via Strada Nuova, 97, Ariccia. Phone number: 06.9332460.
Osteria “Dar Matriciano”
Lovers of the fantastic amatriciana cannot miss a stop at this osteria. In addition to the main dish, you can also taste carbonara and “gnocchetto dar matriciano.” The traditional antipasto (15 euros) includes typical cold cuts, porchetta d’Ariccia and cheeses. Also worth trying are the fabulous “carbobombette” and meatballs all’amatriciana.
Then, pinsa with Nutella or pistachio to end the meal on a high note. In short, forget about dieting for a day! The average price per person is 20 euros.

Aricciainbocca
Aricciainbocca is another fraschetta to try. Dishes are plentiful and the antipasto (19 euros per person) is really rich: it includes cold and hot dishes. Skewer with scamorza and guanciale, stew, baked chicken wings with peppers, buffalo mozzarella, porchetta di Ariccia IGP, ricotta, focaccia with mortadella, etc.
Among the first courses we recommend trying the porchetta ravioli with gorgonzola, radicchio and walnuts. Very nice idea of bringing tiramisu to the table in the coffee machine. Average cost per person: 40 euros. To conclude: good quantity-quality-price ratio.
