We have to consider ourselves really lucky: in Lazio there are so many wonderful places to discover and the sea is at our fingertips. So even if your vacation is still far away, don’t be discouraged. If you’re looking for the seaside near Rome for a relaxing weekend or day getaway, here you’ll find the best of our region for summer 2025.
Here are no less than 17 beautiful beach resorts near Rome not to be missed (and don’t forget the sunscreen!).
Sperlonga
Sperlonga is the pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The crystal clear sea and the small white houses of the old town make this place magical. The town with just over 3,000 inhabitants is part of the “Most Beautiful Villages in Italy” and has been “Blue Flag” for 25 years for the cleanliness of its bathing waters. Here, in addition to swimming in the crystal-clear waters, you can visit the Archaeological Museum and thus discover the splendid marble artifacts from the villa of Tiberius and the cave of the same name. On Bambole Beach there are many establishments offering tasty local products (fruits, vegetables and fish) for an appetizing lunch.
Gaeta
Gaeta is located a short distance from Sperlonga. Unlike the Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea, this municipality has more than 19,000 inhabitants and is inhabited by many people even during the winter months. It is called “the city of 100 churches” because of the many religious buildings in the area. There are seven beaches, but the best known is Serapo beach for its fine sand and proximity to the city.
In Gaeta you never get bored, you can go for long walks on the beach, snorkeling and the aperitifs at sunset. We consider it a place for everyone.
Santa Marinella
Santa Marinella is among the most popular seaside resorts on the Latium coast, perfect for those looking for a beach near Rome that can be reached by train in less than an hour. Its quiet beaches, clear seabed and numerous establishments make it ideal for families and couples. This elegant coastal village also has a strong cultural vocation: don’t miss the Odescalchi Castle and the historic villas on the seafront. Ideal for a beach weekend of beauty.
Santa Severa Castle
In the municipality of Santa Marinella, another location well known for its beautiful waters, we find the Santa Severa Castle. This is one of the best attractions in the world. And it is confirmed by the coveted Time (World’s Greatest Places) list. The sandy beach at the Castle is very spacious and makes for a nice walk. There are also establishments on site to reserve a sunbed and umbrella. Otherwise, many people decide to settle on the free beach.
Sabaudia
Sabaudia is a bit of a VIP seaside resort. Many actors and soccer players own their beach house here. The beach is fine sand and the sea is clean; you can also engage in windsurfing in this windy area. What we like best about Sabaudia is the wild nature that surrounds it. At sunset we recommend you try the aperitifs at Saporetti (Loc. Torre Paola), which are very nice.
Circeo
Also in the province of Latina, we find San Felice Circeo. The village is full of interesting stories and legends; here the sorceress Circe bewitched Ulysses. Not far from the beach of San Felice, you will find the famous Grotta delle Capre. According to legend, in this very cave the sorceress created powerful spells.
In addition to the crystal clear sea and great beaches, we recommend visiting the historic center. In the evening the center becomes lively: clubs, open boutiques and many young people in the streets. A cinema was also dedicated here to Anna Magnani, as the actress loved this village very much and this is where she was buried.
Terracina
Close to Circeo in the province of Latina is Terracina. This seaside resort is very lively in the summer and again this year was awarded the Blue Flag for the quality of its water and beaches (for the 11th year in a row!). It is a place suitable for both families and younger people. Drinks and other beach activities are often organized. In addition, there are many stores to visit downtown for an afternoon stroll.
Anzio
Blue Flag 2025, Anzio is a popular summer destination for its clear waters and seafood restaurants overlooking the sea. In addition, as a town inhabited even in winter, it offers many services. Hairdressers, shopping stores, bars, ice cream parlors, and much more. A lively place not far from the Castelli Romani.
Fondi
Very close to Sperlonga, Fondi is another seaside resort that has been awarded the Blue Flag. Quieter than nearby Sperlonga and Terracina, we recommend it if you want beautiful sea at a good price. In fact, accommodations here are cheaper if booked in time.
Ladispoli
If you are looking for a seaside resort on the Tyrrhenian Sea not far from Rome with services, establishments and accessible beaches, Ladispoli is the answer. Known for its therapeutic dark sand of volcanic origin and calm waters, it is among Lazio’s beaches ideal for a relaxing day out. Here you can enjoy the freshest seafood on the waterfront and take a stroll to Torre Flavia, a striking Renaissance monument. Take a trip to Torretta Beach, known for its beauty and tranquility.
Latina
Latina’s sea has been awarded Blue Flag 2025. If you are looking for a fun place with lots of youth, Marina di Latina offers many establishments with sunbeds and umbrellas to spend your day at the beach, including activities for children. The advice is to take an evening stroll in Latina, which is lively and full of very nice stores. It is easily reached from Rome by train.
Neptune
Neptune is nicknamed “the blue coast of the Romans, “ here there is also the fantastic island-fortress of Torre Astura to visit. The beach stretches for more than 10 km and makes for beautiful seaside walks. The seaside resort is lively and is frequented by many families.
Marina di Montalto
Located in northern Lazio, Marina di Montalto is a quiet corner of the Lazio coastline, perfect for those seeking contact with nature. Here the sea blends with a lush pine forest and long sandy shores. Ideal for a relaxing getaway or a beach weekend near Rome, it is also close to the archaeological area of Vulci, among Etruscan necropolis and waterfalls. If you love the sea but also history, this is the place for you.
Marina di San Nicola
A small jewel on the Latium coast, in the municipality of Ladispoli, Marina di San Nicola is a quiet and safe destination, frequented by families and those looking for a stress-free seaside near Rome. The beach is neat and well-maintained, the sea is crystal clear, and the village is organized like a closed citadel with lots of greenery and pedestrian paths. Great for weekend getaways, it is also perfect for those who love sports, thanks to the tennis and windsurfing courts.
Passoscuro
Among Rome’s lesser-known but more authentic beaches is Passoscuro, a seaside hamlet of Fiumicino beloved by those who shun the crowds. The landscape still retains a wild flavor, between natural dunes of fine sand and a clean sea, perfect for long walks along the shoreline. Great choice if you’re looking for a seaside hamlet near Rome for a genuine, simple, off-the-beaten-path experience. Many beaches are pet-friendly.
Marina di Pescia Romana
This small seaside resort is located along the Latium coast, in the municipality of Montalto di Castro, in the province of Viterbo. It is located in an area renowned for its sandy beaches and unspoiled natural environment, ideal for a relaxing vacation.
Lido dei Pini
Located between Ardea and Anzio, Lido dei Pini is perfect if you are looking for the sea near Rome but want to avoid overly touristy destinations. Golden beaches, clean water and a large pine forest where you can cool off make this area particularly pleasant in summer. The lido is well organized with establishments, bars and restaurants. The specialty of the place? Fresh seafood! An ideal destination for those who want a relaxing weekend on the Lazio coast, perhaps with a good book under the umbrella.
