Areas of 2025
There are blue flags, which recognize the excellence of a beach, and“black flags,” which warn of health hazards to bathers due to poor water quality. This year, as Arpa Lazio reports,“quality is further improved compared to the previous assessment, with 202 areas rated excellent, (one more than in 2024), out of a total of 221 bathing areas.”
As stated in the report, only 1 percent of waters fall into the sufficient or poor category. Recall that the rating levels are: excellent, good, sufficient, poor. In the “poor” category we find one area in Pomezia and one in Terracina.
ARPA Lazio has already started the new controls starting April 1 and will continue until the end of September.
The black flag areas of 2024
- Ardea: bathing is not allowed in the waters from 1000 m left of the Rio Grande ditch to 350 m left of the Moletta ditch
- Torvaianica: a bathing ban has been placed in four beaches near the ditches for summer 2024
- Viterbo: four areas have been highlighted as unsuitable for bathing for spring-summer 2024 in the Viterbo area
Specifically, in Torvaianica, bathing has been banned on four beaches near ditches, specifically:
- Fosso Pratica, 250 meters to the left and 250 meters to the right of the ditch
- Fosso della Crocetta, 250 meters to the left and 250 meters to the right of the ditch
- Fosso Orfeo ditch, 250 meters to the left and 250 meters to the right of the ditch
- Fosso Rio Torto, 250 meters to the left of the ditch
In the *viterbese, however, swimming is not allowed in several areas:
- Military polygon area
- Mouth of the Marta River, bathing prohibited at the mouth of the Marta River and 400 meters to the right of the river itself
- In the vicinity of the Ports of Bolsena, Capodimonte and Marta
There are other areas mentioned in the list, published last year by the Lazio Region, of waters not used for bathing in 2024. For example, we find areas in Santa Marinella, Terracina, Sabaudia, Formia, Anzio and in several ports.
