Discovering Torre Astura (less than two hours by car from Rome)
In the middle of the sea, in the territory of the municipality of Nettuno, stands the castle of Torre Astura. This tower is located on a small island connected to the mainland by a stone bridge. This natural place can be accessed only at certain times of the year.
The 8-kilometer free beach is washed by crystal-clear water and allows you to spend a nice, relaxing day. Before going to Torre Astura, however, we recommend checking the openings. It is usually accessible in the summer period (July and August) during weekends. For this reason, you need to consult the directions of the Municipality of Nettuno. To reach it, you can also take the shuttle bus that leaves from Nettuno on weekends.
How can it be reached?
The beach will be open every day until August 31, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. On weekends there is a shuttle service, at a cost of 1 euro, from the center of Neptune to the pine forest next to the beach; to comfortably reach this natural place.

A bit of history about this pristine natural landscape
In medieval times the place was the site of an ancient Roman port. The tower was built in 1193 by the local lords, the Frangipane family, to defend Astura from the Saracens. The present structure, however, is due to the Roman Colonna family, who renovated the castle in 1426. The pine forest of Astura, between the provincial road and the castle, has inspired writers and poets over the centuries, such as Gabriele D’Annunzio.
