If you’re just passing through Rome, don’t be discouraged: the city lets you see plenty of things even in just a few hours—you just need to “plan your travel well.” In fact, Rome is large and doesn’t have many metro lines, which is why we’ve put together a convenient itinerary to help you avoid wasting time.
The one-day itinerary for visiting Rome
The first thing to do is choose a hotel in a strategic area: San Giovanni, Re di Roma, Manzoni, and other areas near Line A (the most convenient for reaching the main attractions).
Your one-day journey to discover Rome’s beauty starts at the Colosseum, but first stop by Regoli for a classic Roman breakfast featuring the famous maritozzo.
Once you’ve explored the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and the Palatine Hill, head to the Vittoriano; here you can climb to the top and admire the beauty of Rome from above.
After walking quite a bit, you deserve a lunch break to try Roman cuisine. Head toOsteria delle Coppelle (we recommend booking a table in advance) to sample the typical dishes: meatballs in sauce, carbonara, amatriciana, pizza, and much more.
Now, with a full stomach, head to the Pantheon, a temple founded in 27 BC, dedicated to all the gods of the past. Next steps: the Trevi Fountain to make a wish and the beautiful Piazza Navona, where you can admire the underground passages.
Now you’ve earned a nice aperitif; head up to the magnificent Terrazza Borromini for a drink with a view of Piazza Navona.
And for dinner? Wrap up your Roman day in Trastevere: to soak up a lively atmosphere; if you’re not easily offended, you could book a table at “Cencio.” Another typical little spot in Trastevere is La Gattabuia.
And finally… treat yourself to a drink to bid farewell to the Eternal City in a “spicy” bookshop.
