Where they make Fragolino liqueur
Nemi is part of Italy’s Most Beautiful Villages, the admission took place this summer. In addition to Nemi, other places in Italy have been certified: Caldes (TN), Fontainemore (AO), Barolo (CN), Clusone (BG) and Maratea (PZ). There are 354 member Villages in our country and more than 900 that have applied for evaluation. The committee reviews 72 parameters to admit municipalities (must have less than 15 thousand inhabitants in the municipal area and no more than 2 thousand in the borough). The selection is strict and gives, the municipalities that obtain recognition, an opportunity for economic and social development.
What to see in Nemi
Nemi is famous for its wild strawberries and the wonderful view of the volcanic lake with its lovers’ terrace. It could be the ideal place to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Every year in June, during the Strawberry Festival, local women dress up in traditional clothes. A mock August snowfall was also organized here in the summer. The village is lively and is full of interesting places to discover.
History buffs can find, in the Museum of Roman Ships, two boats made at the behest of Emperor Caligula and some objects belonging to the Temple of Diana Aricina, a huge religious complex whose remains remain today in Nemi itself.
“Wewarmly welcome the newcomer boroughs,” said Fiorello Primi, “congratulating them on passing the evaluation process for admission into our Association, which, more and more and better, wants to represent an advanced tip of the Borghi system in Italy.”
“There are already established Villages ,” Primi continues , “that bring additional notoriety to the Association, and others that, while equally fascinating and rich in artistic and cultural treasures, are less well known and need the Association’s pull to make themselves known and appreciated.”
