There are few places in Rome where you can eat pizza with mint-scented tripe. If you are a fan of pizza by the slice, there is a neighborhood pizzeria, famous in Garbatella, that you should know about… and those who work or live in EUR will soon be able to taste it, as another location is set to open.
Nonnarè is a pizzeria that smells like home, born from Alessio Pili’s desire to honor his roots right where it all began. Opened in June 2025, this restaurant is a reference point for those seeking authentic Roman pizza and the genuine hospitality of yesteryear.
The story of Nonnarè
After training with master chef Angelo Iezzi and gaining significant experience—including opening a restaurant on the Prenestina and collaborating on the Pantera project—Alessio chose to return “home.” Together with his wife Martina, he found the perfect location for his pizzeria in the historic streets of Garbatella.
The name is an affectionate reference to Alessio’s grandmother, the figure who inspired his love for authentic flavors.
Strictly Roman pizza, thin and crispy

Alongside the classics, there are seasonal and signature combinations such as pizza with nervetti (beef tendon) and Roman pesto or stuffed with spinach, raisins, and pine nuts. On Valentine’s Day, you can enjoy pizza with red turnip, sheep’s milk ricotta, blueberries, and mint.
It also offers a traditional Roman recipe book with meatballs in sauce, tripe, coratella, and chicken cacciatore. A staple of the menu is the fried food, made daily with artisanal breading. Don’t miss the supplì with homemade ragù or the original version with Roman broccoli, anchovies, and provolone cheese.
Nonnarè is a “true km” project, sourcing its ingredients daily from historic local shops (such as Macelleria Natoli and Le Primizie della Frutta). Even the beer is local, specially brewed by the Rewsaka brewery.
The restaurant has a strong, unfiltered identity: its Roman soul shines through with pride, emphasized by an evocative mural by street artist Drugi, making the pizzeria a favorite haunt for fans and residents looking for a genuine, family atmosphere.
