EUR is a neighborhood of Rome located in the southwest part of the city, known for its modern architecture. Construction of the district was begun to host the Universal Exposition in Rome – from which it takes its name – which was supposed to take place in 1942 but, due to World War II, never happened. Rationalist, clean architecture that follows strict geometric lines dominates in the district, although there is no shortage of colorful, less structured places, such as the EUR Pond where one can take wonderful walks.
Over the years the district has seen a great development, especially in the gastronomic part. In fact, many restaurateurs have chosen EUR to open their establishments and, as a result, it is not at all difficult to find quality food in this part of the city. From mouth-watering pastry shops to fine dining restaurants, here are some of our favorite places to stop for a bite to eat at any hour of the day in Rome’s EUR district.
La Cannoleria Siciliana
The ideal place for those who love Sicilian scents and flavors. At La Cannoleria Siciliana you will find a wide selection of pastries from the Sicilian pastry shop, such as cassatas, St. Joseph’s cream puffs and, of course, the ever-present cannoli. Not only pastries, at Cannoleria Siciliana you can also have a nice savory snack or try their very tasty Sicilian aperitif.

Taverna Tintoretto
If you’re a good eater and the skimpy portions at starred restaurants won’t even make you an appetizer, you’ll do well at Taverna Tintoretto. Probably the largest frying pans in all of EUR, this place serves XL Roman cuisine. A mountain of creamy tonnarelli cacio e pepe or a truly hearty plate of pasta all’amatriciana with crispy guanciale, every sweet tooth’s dream finally comes true at this restaurant. Don’t worry, there are also regular portions and great classics revisited, for those who are looking for new tastes but don’t necessarily want to abandon tradition.

A true institution in Rome, impossible not to mention in this list. The historic gelateria La Romana is located right in the EUR district and is one of the most popular in the Capital. The flavors to choose from are varied, every now and then changing leaving room for mouth-watering collaborations. A special feature of La Romana? You can “personalize” your cone by sweetening it even more with a bit of melted chocolate inside, white, milk or dark.

With more than 100 flavors of ice cream, gluten-free and lactose-free waffles, this place pleases just about everyone and ensures an extremely mouth-watering snack. Cavalletti
Another historic establishment is definitely Cavalletti. A cafeteria with more than one location in Rome, it is famous for its millefeuille. In fact, it is said to have been a favorite of Queen Elizabeth, and every year one of her employees would come and order one to send to Buckingham Palace. The goodness and lightness of the cream marry perfectly with the crispness of the pastry. But there is more to Cavalletti’s than just dessert. The café also offers a hearty aperitif formula, with drinks of your choice accompanied by a well-assorted trestle. The ideal place for a sweet or savory snack.

To stay on the romantic and chic theme, in one of the most beautiful areas of the EUR district, right on the banks of the Laghetto, you will find Barcheria. The ideal place to try with the arrival of warm weather, where you can have a cold beer with friends or one of their spritz variants together with a special someone.
If you’re looking for something to wow your date, Barcheria offers the chance to rent little boats, swan-shaped pedal boats and even a gondola (gondolier included!) to take a romantic tour of the pond. Included in their apericena formula is a drink, which you can even take aboard the boat in case you need some liquid courage to make your move, and a mixed platter of samplings that can vary with the season.

Feeling at home without being at home is how the atmosphere of Casa Novecento welcomes its diners. This venue offers itself as a space suitable for any event, be it a romantic date or a family dinner, accompanying good food with a cozy setting. An enchanting place in the heart of the EUR district, ideal for an evening with friends. Héco EUR offers contemporary dishes, both meat and fish, and gourmet pizzas.
