Once again this year, there are wonderful stretches of coastline where you can swim, but special caution is needed in certain areas. Here is the map of swimming bans for the 2026 summer season based on recent ordinances.
The Areas for 2026 (Pomezia)
As is done every year, areas where the water does not meet hygiene and public health standards are identified. For the summer of 2026, the Municipality of Pomezia, as reported in Il Caffe, has issued a specific ordinance (No. 12 of May 12) to prohibit swimming at the mouths of ditches. We’re not talking about beaches closed to the public (access to the beach and staying on the sand are still allowed), but rather a targeted ban on entering the water for health and safety reasons, pending favorable results from bacteriological tests.

As stated in the ordinance, the competent authorities will monitor compliance with the bans, which will be indicated by special signs. Please note that, to correctly interpret the directions, “right” or “left” is determined by standing with your back to the sea.
Where swimming is prohibited in Torvaianica
The measure affects five key points along the coastline, located near the ditches. Specifically, in Torvaianica, swimming has been prohibited in the following areas:
- Fosso Pratica, 250 meters to the left and 250 meters to the right of the ditch
- Fosso della Crocetta, 250 meters to the left and 250 meters to the right of the ditch (same applies to Fosso Orfeo)
- 250 meters to the left and 250 meters to the right of the Fosso Rio Torto ditch (the right side falls under the jurisdiction of the Municipality of Ardea)
- Area known as Sinistra Foce Rio Torto
As for the critical area of Rio Torto, bordering the Ardea coastline, the ban is stricter, covering the section “250m left of the Rio Torto ditch” (in this specific section, the ban is not temporary but permanent).
The Municipality of Pomezia has also announced the bathing hours for the 2026 season, which runs from May 17 to September 20: Monday through Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
