From May 1 to 3, 2026, the Città dell’Altra Economia will host a new Librokilo event, coinciding with the Roma Vegan Festival. An opportunity to save books from the pulping press and enrich your personal library while keeping an eye on your wallet and the environment.
Everything you need to know about this event for book lovers
The event will be held atthe former Slaughterhouse Area ( Largo Dino Frisullo, 00153 Rome), Friday, May 1, 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM, Saturday, May 2, 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM, Sunday, May 3, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Admission is free, but reservations are required.
The concept is very simple: choose what you like, place it on the scale, and pay based on weight. Fixed price: €10 per kg. Once you exceed the first kilo (minimum threshold), you also pay for the decimals (e.g., 1.3 kg = €13).
You can actively contribute by bringing your used books ( maximum 5 kg per person), provided they are in excellent condition. You will receive 1 €1 token for every kilo of books you bring , which can be used immediately for your purchases during the fair. What not to bring: encyclopedias, school or university textbooks, magazines, religious books, travel guides, or Harmony/Liala editions. The final selection is at the discretion of the staff.

Librokilo is not just a market, as the organizers explain. The goal is to reduce the environmental impact of transportation and promote conscious consumption. “Publish less, publish better.” The event encourages the reuse of books that would otherwise be destroyed, and everyone is encouraged to bring their own bag from home.
To give some examples, the event in Verona put 10,000 books back into circulation, while in Rimini over 4 tons of books were returned to circulation.
Thanks to our partnership with WAMI, water will be distributed free of charge in recyclable packs: each pack helps donate 100 liters of drinking water to communities in need.
