If you are planning a trip to the capital or want to introduce some of your friends to Rome, here is the best time to visit. Many will think of the Christmas season, but we actually have another season in mind…
Springtime in Rome
Rome is a beautiful city to visit all year round, but if we were to give advice to someone who asks us what is the right time to pack their bags, we would tell them spring. The first reason has to do with the weather; it usually rains less in May and is not too hot. Visiting in winter, in case of bad weather, would mean not being able to enjoy the city’s attractions (which is called“an open-air museum” by many) to the fullest. And then let’s not forget about the Roman coastline, which even in spring has its charm, walking along the beaches of Ostia, it will also happen to see people taking their first swim in the sea (before August, the water is cleaner).

Another reason could be about affordability: past Easter, usually prices for airline tickets and accommodations tend to fall and then rise again in summer… which we do not recommend because it is too hot to visit the city on foot. An alternative, in this case, if you really have no way to take days off in the spring period would be to resort to Vespa or bus tours.
In springtime, you can also admire the beauty of the flowers. The Spanish Steps are decorated annually with azaleas (about 250 plants), and give an explosion of white and lilac colors between April and May. This floral tradition, which has been going on for years, uses varieties of plants, including the “White of Spain” and the “Phoenician Lilac.” A trip to the Spanish Steps of Trinità dei Monti during this period is recommended.

In addition, the municipal rose garden reopens in spring with free access! It is located in a central and very beautiful area of the capital that also allows you to see other sights, such as the orange garden and the famous keyhole.
