Want to get to heavenly places without having to fly from Rome? Here are some boat trips that allow you to explore dreamy places and dive into crystal clear waters.
Ponza Island
You can decide to set off to explore the island of Ponza, with a 6-hour tour to discover the most beautiful sights or you can take the ferry (duration 1.20 h) that takes you from Anzio to Ponza and from there decide where to go. This is the cheapest solution. Many beaches and coves not to be missed. Frontone , Cala Feola, Cala Fonte and Piscine Naturali are the most accessible by land; to reach Frontone there is a cab boat from the port.
Chiaia di Luna and some wilder coves can only be reached by booking boat excursions directly at the port.
Circeo Caves.
The approximately 2-hour boat excursion in Circeo National Park starts from a meeting point between Terracina and San Felice Circeo, where you meet the skipper and form the group.
During the tour, you sail along the Circeo promontory, admiring the historic 1866 lighthouse, the old farista house and the Punta Rossa Batterie, with its emerald-water coves. Numerous sea caves are explored, including Grotta delle Capre (with a 15-meter-high vault), Grotta dell’Impiso (with a central stalactite) and Grotta del Fossellone, characterized by a distinctive rock bridge formation. The route also offers the chance to dive and swim in the clear, refreshing waters of the Circeo.
The boat is a gozzo with awning, suitable for everyone without age limits, but not accessible to people with mobility difficulties. The experience takes place from June to September.
Aperitif sailing from Ostia
Sunset aperitif sailing on the Roman coast? Here’s an experience to try. It is an approximately 3-hour sailing excursion aboard the boat Sugar and Cinnamon, guided by an experienced skipper.
Departure is from the tourist port of Ostia (RM), and then sail between Ostia and Fiumicino, admiring the view and the sea tinged with colors at sunset. In addition, there is the opportunity to participate in sailing maneuvers and learn sailing skills.
There is a stop along the coast for an aperitif on board with appetizers, chips and prosecco, and the return to the port is scheduled after about 3 hours.
