If you think that to eat excellent Asian pastries in Rome you have to go to Piazza Vittorio, get ready to change your mind. At Via Tuscolana 936/A, there is a little aesthetic treasure hidden away: Zhi Zhi Cake Studio.
The new store on Tuscolana
Walking along Via Tuscolana, it certainly does not go unnoticed: it is the place I would choose for a relaxing snack with friends. The experience is a real treat for the senses, as you can see from the various comments left on Google. As soon as you cross the threshold, you find yourself immersed in a well-kept environment, dominated by pink tones and furnishings that invite you to relax. It is the perfect place if you are looking for a cozy and quiet corner, away from the chaos of the city.
Matcha and more

If you love matcha, they take it seriously here. You can also enjoy the Matcha Towel Roll (or Matcha Crepe Roll), characterized by thin layers of matcha tea crepes rolled together to form a roll (similar to a rolled towel): an incredible texture that literally melts in your mouth.
Other sweets include moon cakes, various rolls, mango and black rice cake, and mochi in different flavors (chocolate, Oreo, strawberry, matcha, mango). Two mochi cost €6.
There are several drinks to try, with the option of plant-based milk for those looking for an alternative, such as tiramisu milk ( €4) or cold coconut and coffee milk (€4).
The history of the venue
The story behind this place is fascinating, and we discovered it thanks to Gambero Rosso. The owner, Zhi Zhi, who arrived in Italy from China twenty years ago, left the world of fashion in Piazza di Spagna to follow her passion. After paying her dues in the family workshop, she opened her first shop in 2022, bringing authentic modern Chinese pastries to Rome.
What strikes you, besides the friendliness of the staff, is the value for money. You can find mini cakes for €6.50.
Why visit? The atmosphere: it is the most “Instagrammable” and relaxing Asian pastry shop in the capital. The selection: lots of original options that cannot be found anywhere else. The location: very convenient, right on Via Tuscolana (near the metro).
Useful info: two locations at Via Tuscolana, 936/A (Rome) / Via Rocca Priora, 65. Specialties: Crepe cakes, Towel rolls, Matcha latte, Artisan mochi.
