In the capital’s vibrant culinary scene, in the Torrino-Decima neighborhood (near the EUR district), there’s a new spot that’s all about rediscovering the classic Roman pizza: Bassa Pizza Popolare. Born from the experience of young Roman entrepreneurs Andrea Previtera and Stefano Rinaldi (already founders of the Lievito Pizzerie brand), this restaurant isn’t meant to be a mere nostalgia trip, but rather a modern, technical, and accessible reinterpretation of authentic Roman pizza.
Thin, down-to-earth pizza: the menu
A biga pre-ferment, medium hydration, and a fermentation period ranging from 24 to 30 hours. The dough is rolled out with a rolling pin, using light dough balls weighing 140–150 grams, and the result is an extra-thin crust that retains its “crispy” texture even with the moistest toppings, confirming the initial enthusiastic reviews from customers who praise its lightness and high digestibility.

The special summer pizzas (David Boncompagni X Bassa)
Alongside the great classics (offered at decidedly “affordable” prices, ranging from €6 to €12), the pizzeria features a very creative special menu perfect for the warmer months. Here are the new highlights of the menu, created in collaboration with David Boncompagni:
- Octobassa ( €15.00): boiled potatoes, fior di latte, octopus, lime mayonnaise, parsley, extra virgin olive oil.
- Rebellious Marinara (€14.00): cuore di bue tomatoes, smoked buffalo mozzarella, Cantabrian anchovies, oregano, basil, lemon, and extra virgin olive oil.
- Nerano sottile (€14.50): minted zucchini purée, sautéed zucchini, zucchini flowers, Provolone del Monaco, lemon, mint, extra virgin olive oil.
- Vegan Lucana ( €13.50): chickpea purée, sautéed eggplant, roasted bell pepper, parsley, extra virgin olive oil.
- La Fissa di David (€14.50): eggplant purée, eggplant in oil, prosciutto, stracchino, and extra virgin olive oil.
- Not Just Pizza: The Return of the Calzone and Roman Fried Dishes.
Bassa’s menu also stands out for bringing back a great classic from the ’80s: the calzone.
The restaurant is simple and modern, with seating for about 60 inside, plus a summer outdoor seating area.
