Last Sunday was a beautiful autumn day and we took the opportunity to take a walk in Villa Pamphilj, the third largest public park in the capital. This green lung also houses an ancient residence, a treasure chest containing precious historical treasures. So if you haven’t paid attention to Villa Pamphilj yet, we suggest you take a tour (free outdoor yoga classes are also held in the summer).
But back to us, and the tastiest chocolate dessert in the capital (according to our palate). After walking, we get very hungry, and a friend of ours tells us about a well-known restaurant that has been open for years in the Monteverde area. Fortunately, given the late hour, we manage to find a seat. The owner is a very nice gentleman who is helped by his family in this business that has been standing since 1945.
We take a seat on the heated covered veranda. In fact, Il Focolare is divided into several areas: the outdoor space, and two indoor rooms. Upon entering, we cannot fail to notice the counter with fresh produce, among them the caught fish. Once seated, with eyes on the menu, the appetite increases seeing the many dishes present, both meat and fish.
Seafood salads, cuttlefish, spaghetti with real clams, rice with scampi cream, cannelloni, ravioli, gnocchi, fish of the day baked with potatoes, meat, artichokes alla romana, artichokes alla giudia, etc. As for the fish, we can say that we were satisfied.
The chocolate cake
If you love sweet more than savory, however, you will not be disappointed with the dessert proposal either. Not knowing the restaurant beforehand, we didn’t know it was famous for the eggnog prepared at the table, which we ordered anyway. As lovers of dark chocolate, then, there was another sweet that drew our attention more than any other (“one that you can’t find like this elsewhere, “ as the owner explained to us). We are talking about the tenerina ferrarese, prepared with lots of dark chocolate and that will make you, at least for a few minutes, forget about all your problems.
