Do you like visiting castles and thus embark on a journey through time to discover the past? Here is a must-see manor house in Lazio.
The Castle of Rocca Sinibalda is a fascinating example of historical architecture located in the province of Rieti, Lazio. It stands on a promontory overlooking the valley of the Turano, about an hour away from Rome.
In the 11th century it was built as a military fortress. The name comes from Sinibaldo, a Lombard nobleman who was count and rector of Sabina between 1058 and 1065. During the Renaissance, the castle was transformed by the Sienese architect Baldassarre Peruzzi, who gave it its present appearance of a powerful fortress combined with an elegant noble palace.
Rocca Sinibalda Castle is known for its polygonal structure and strategic location on a 520-meter-high hill, which made it virtually impregnable in the past.
