The charming village of Saracinesco, about 50 kilometers from Rome and easily reached by exiting at Vicovaro-Mandela on the A24 highway, is preparing for a unique event that promises to take its visitors back in time.
The program of the night of the lanterns
On Sunday, December 7, starting at 6 p.m., the “Night of Lanterns” will be held, now in its second edition. The initiative will transform the path leading to the highest vantage point of the village: the entire path will be illuminated only by the faint and warm light of countless lanterns.
The fairy-tale atmosphere will be enriched by a food and wine and commercial route: among the alleys of the village, visitors will be able to find street food points and stalls dedicated to local crafts.
The event is made possible thanks to the collaboration between the Corte Saracena association and the Pro Loco of Saracinesco, with the support and patronage of the municipality.

“Christmas Atmospheres”
Also in Saracinesco, the day of Sunday, December 7, will be full of events thanks to the “III Edition of Christmas Atmosfere,” promoted by the Pro Loco and the Corte Saracena Association:
- Street Food and the performance of the Folkloric Group “Matru di Amatrice”
- Shows with the Fire Eater and an evocative “Snowfall … from the Court”
- For the little ones: Christmas Inflatables and meeting with Santa & The Elf.
- At 5 p.m., a Christmas Concert will be held at the Church of St. M. Archangel.
It will also be possible to discover the “Little Nativity Scen es” set up in various corners of the village. In short, if you don’t know what to do this December long weekend, here is a place to explore a short distance from Rome.
How to get to Saracinesco from Rome
The quickest and most convenient way to get there is by car, but you can also get there by public transportation by combining train and bus. Take the train (Rome-Pescara line) from Roma Tiburtina or Roma Termini station to Valle dell’Aniene – Mandela – Sambuci station (also known as Vicovaro-Mandela).
From Vicovaro-Mandela station, you will need to take the local COTRAL bus line that connects the station to Saracinesco. Bus stops in the area are infrequent, so it is essential to check the connecting times well.
