Ice skating is a sport in its own right, and some disciplines, such as figure skating, are practiced at the Olympic level. Moving on ice (with appropriate skates) appeals to many people, not just professionals. In cold countries it is also practiced on frozen lakes and rivers; the ice must be thick enough to support the skater’s weight.
In our cities, not so cold in winter, rinks are set up outdoors and inside arenas. In these cases the ice is artificially created and maintained by refrigeration systems.
Let’s see where in Rome some of the ice rinks made for the Christmas holidays are located.
Ice skating rink in the AURA Shopping Center
The ice rink in AURA was inaugurated on December 8. The mall on 30 Valle Aurelia Avenue has been decorated for Christmas and inside it also has a slide for fun descents from floor to floor.
Outside the mall you can skate until Dec. 20 from 2 to 8 p.m., from Dec. 21 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with extended closures on Fridays and Saturdays until 10 p.m. Half-hourly skating from 6 euros.
Ice rink in Frascati
Near Rome, in Frascati, where the Christmas market is also held throughout the Christmas season, an ice rink has been installed in the central Piazza San Pietro. This town is popular with families with young children because of the proposed games and activities to do under the holidays.
Ice Park
For the Christmas season, the Ice Park is back in different areas of the capital. Ice skating rinks are open daily from 10 a.m. to midnight; in addition to skating freely, you can book lessons. Here’s where you’ll find them: at Largo Beltramelli, Re di Roma Square, Cavour Square and the Foro Italico. They will remain open until January 2024. Full ticket 12 euros, reduced 10 euros.
Aura On Ice Cinecittà
In the Cinecittà cc parking lot, Tuscolana side, we find another ice rink, open daily until January 6 (inclusive) from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Prices are as follows:
- 30 min: 7 €
- 1 hour: 12 €
- penguins: 3 €, 30 min
