The Serre di Palazzo Barberini in Rome is home to a new bar and restaurant located in the striking 19th-century greenhouse within the palace’s gardens. Designed by architect Francesco Azzurri and completed in the late 19th century during a rearrangement of the gardens, the greenhouse has recently been restored and refunctionalized.
Serre Barberini: what to eat

The greenhouse is 37 meters long and features a mixed structure of masonry, steel and glass with cast-iron columns. In the center is a fountain that stands out in nature, surrounded by the baroque aesthetic of the building.
The décor of the venue, called Serre Barberini, is inspired by the floral cafeterias of the late 19th century, with large windows that allow for views of the greenery. The labyrinth garden is accessible independently of a visit to the museum; you will also find the granite Egyptian stele of Amon – Ra, the Sun God, from the Temple of Isis.
It is a fascinating place to have breakfast (free WiFi access) or lunch. What to eat. You can choose from burgers, sandwiches, first courses – e.g., risotto with 48-month Parmesan cheese, cornflower yogurt and lemon zest (18 euros) – or main courses of either fish or meat – e.g., Mediterranean-style 180g beef tartare served with stracciatella, piennolo tomatoes and balsamic vinegar reduction from Modena or octopus with potatoes (18 euros) – and to end on a sweet note, dessert, tiramisu, chocolate cupcake, lemon delight, etc. Vegetable dishes are also offered on the menu for those who do not eat animal protein.
It can be ideal for a relaxing break or meeting in a unique setting, immersed in the magnificence of one of Rome’s most important Baroque palaces.
