To breathe new life into its charming historic center, with its narrow alleys and stone houses, the local government has officially joined the famous real estate project offering homes for sale for 1 euro.
What is the Norma project?
Under the leadership of Mayor Andrea Dell’Omo, the initiative aims to transform abandoned or dilapidated properties into a catalyst for the town’s revival. The administration’s main goals are to restore and secure the unused building stock, reverse the trend of abandonment in the historic center, attract new residents and capital—while also appealing to international investors—and enhance the area’s visibility as a tourist destination and its lodging options.
How to Participate
The initiative represents a great opportunity, but it requires a concrete commitment from the buyer. Purchasing a home for the symbolic price of 1 euro entails accepting specific obligations, such as submitting a detailed, feasible renovation plan that complies with the town’s architectural and urban planning restrictions; covering all notary fees, registration costs, property transfer expenses, and land registry procedures. The buyer must notify the authorities of the start of construction and complete the renovation by the deadlines set forth in the call for bids. To safeguard the project, the buyer is required to take out a performance bond (a security deposit ranging from 1,000 to 5,000 euros), which will be fully refunded upon completion of the work.
