The Parco Zoo delle Star in Aprilia (in the town of Fossignano) is a very unique place located a short distance from Rome, combining the glamour of the entertainment world with a noble mission of conservation and rehabilitation.
How this park, located a short distance from Rome, came to be
The park was founded by Daniel Berquiny, an expert animal trainer who has worked for decades in the world of film and television. Many of the animals that have lived here in the past were true “stars” of the big screen, appearing in iconic films such as *Bingo Bongo* ( starring Adriano Celentano), *Sandokan* ( starring Kabir Bedi), Mel Gibson’s *The Passion of the Christ*, and Roberto Benigni’s *The Tiger and the Snow *.

A Mission of Rehabilitation and Protection
Today, the park’s primary function has evolved: from a “film set” to a true sanctuary for animals. Many of its residents are animals that have been abandoned, mistreated, or seized by the relevant authorities due to illicit trafficking or illegal possession. The park has become a leading center for environmental education, biodiversity conservation, and scientific research, promoting long-distance adoption campaigns to support the animals’ care.
What to do in the park and when to visit
The facility spans approximately 5 hectares and is home to over 90 different animal species. It is a popular destination for schools, thanks to its educational programs, guided tours, and the opportunity to deepen one’s understanding of wildlife and delicate environmental balances.
The park is equipped with picnic areas, playgrounds for children (often used for birthday parties as well), a restaurant-pizzeria, and spacious green areas for spending a day with the family.
