Christmas when you are little is the most wonderful time of the year, you send your little letter and you have more time to be with your family. If you are thinking of organizing magical moments for your children, Rome dresses up in December with many events in different areas of the metropolis. Here are some suggestions for fun, kid-friendly days out.
Ice skating rinks in Rome
If you like ice skating, there are two rinks to try in Rome. The first is the one at the Aura shopping center, near the Piazza della Fornace. Here there is a (real) ice skating rink open to everyone. The cost is €8 for 30 minutes or €12 for one hour. Opening hours vary: it is generally open from 2 to 8 p.m. (weekdays) and from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. (weekends and from Dec. 23). Special events are also scheduled at 4 p.m., including magic shows and the Cartoon Super Show on Dec. 26 and the arrival of the Epiphany on Jan. 6.
CasalBertone Shopping Center is hosting an indoor ice skating rink, called “CasalBertone On Ice,” located in its main square to celebrate the Christmas season.
The attraction will be active until Jan. 6. Until Dec. 23: Weekday opening hours are from 2 to 8 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday opening hours are continuous from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. From December 24 to January 6: the rink is open daily from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.
Costs: admission is very affordable, with a price of €3 for half an hour and €5 for an hour of skating. The event is produced in collaboration with Radio Globo.
Zoomarine’s Christmas party.
On December 21, a special Live Show will be held at Zoomarine with guests Lucilla & Daisy Dot to celebrate the park’s 20th anniversary and Christmas. The show will have children dancing and singing, who will then have a chance to meet the artists for a souvenir photo.
Admission is 25€ full and 15€ reduced (online only, subject to availability) and includes:
- access to rides and attractions
- the demonstrations with the animals
- the Live Show of Lucilla & Daisy Dot
- the meeting with fans and a gadget
There will also be illuminations, Christmas attractions and the presence of Santa Claus and the Elves during the day.
“Christmas Stories” show
The Elsa Morante Theater will host the children’s show “Stories of Christmas,” based on stories by authors such as Gianni Rodari and Bernard Friot. An interactive theater experience where actors and actresses, in collaboration with the audience of boys and girls, will invent new stories extemporaneously every day. Adaptation and direction: Roberto Gandini. Production: Teatro di Roma – Teatro Nazionale and Laboratorio Teatrale Integrato Piero Gabrielli. Recommended age: ages 4 and up.
Market and Feast of the Epiphany in Piazza Navona.

Like every year, Piazza Navona is filled with booths with games and crafts for the typical Christmas market. Food, entertainment and puppet shows will help make your day unique. Also, on January 6, the befana arrives to bring treats and coal to the children.
Chaos Lab
This “science” experience allows children to meet “a mad scientist,” play in different rooms, and experience play and scientific principles.
Participants, ideal for children ages 4 and up, can explore different sensory rooms, participate in live experiments, and have fun in areas such as the ball pool. The goal is to create, learn and get a little dirty in a stimulating environment for the whole family. The event takes place in St. John Lateran Square and is also open during the holidays.
