If you’re already thinking about what to do on April 25— —without having to travel too far from Rome, look no further. On Saturday and Sunday, at the Scuderie Aldobrandini in Frascati, over fifty Lazio wineries will open their doors for Vinalia Priora 2026: the fifth edition of Lazio’s most anticipated spring wine festival returns more spectacular than ever.
Last year, it attracted over 1,200 visitors with more than 200 labels available for tasting. This year, it’s aiming even higher.
What to do in Rome on April 25, 2026: Frascati hosts the Lazio wine festival
Vinalia Priora is not your typical wine fair. Founded in 2022 based on an idea by Claudio Cerroni, the Councilor for Agriculture of the Municipality of Frascati, and developed by wine researcher and educator Jacopo Manni in collaboration with Frascati Scienza and Iperico Servizi per la Cultura, the event has grown to become a key highlight of the regional wine scene.
The theme of this edition is specific and ambitious: The Geographies of Lazio Wines. A journey spanning the entire region, from the Pontine Islands to the Tyrrhenian coast, from volcanic lakes to the hills of the hinterland, told through the glasses of the wineries that call it home.
Frascati, the home of Lazio’s volcanic wine par excellence in its DOC and DOCG appellations, is the perfect setting: here, wine is not just a product but a historical legacy dating back to Roman times.
€10 masterclasses to delve into the heart of Lazio wine
The masterclass program is the detail that sets Vinalia Priora apart from any other food and wine event in Lazio. Tickets cost between €10 and €15and offer insights into winemaking stories rarely found elsewhere.
Saturday, April 25:
- Zoning of the Laziale Volcano: initial analytical evidence on how the volcanic subsoil shapes the wines of the Castelli Romani
- Bellone: the white grape variety from Lazio that is conquering international markets, paving the way for a new prominence of regional white wine
- Rare Lazio grape varieties: biodiversity as a strategic asset: the nearly extinct varieties that the most daring producers are bringing back to life
Sunday, April 26:
- Malvasia Puntinata: the defining characteristic of the classic Lazio white wine, blending structure, balance, and aromatic depth
- Lazio’s ungrafted vines: vineyards growing on their own roots, without grafting, guardians of a biodiversity that is almost extinct in Europe
- Cesanese: Lazio’s great red wine and its path to international markets
Lazio, as the organizers point out, is the only Italian region capable of expressing such a wide variety of environments within a single territorial system.
Malvasia Puntinata, Cesanese, Bellone, rare varieties, and ungrafted vines aren’t just a list: they’re an ecosystem. And Vinalia Priora is the only event that tries to tell the whole story.
A tasting journey: 10 tastings from over 50 Lazio wineries
The tasting route is open on Saturday, April 25, and Sunday, April 26, from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM. With your admission ticket, you are entitled to:
- 10 tastings of your choice from hundreds of labels from different vintages.
- Tasting glass included.
- A shoulder bag to carry your glass with you as you wander freely among the booths.
