In the heart of the Castelli Romani, between the hills of Frascati and Tuscolo, there is a fascinating itinerary of about 3 hours that combines nature, history and culture in a unique experience. Although it is not a marked route, it presents a medium difficulty (we recommend you wear hiking shoes).
The woodland trail from Frascati
We start from the lively Piazza Marconi in Frascati, passing by the elegant Villa Aldobrandini and climbing up towards Via Catone, and then skirting some of the most beautiful Tuscolan villas, such as Villa Lancellotti, Villa Falconieri and Villa Mondragone, all famous for their sumptuous Italian gardens.
After crossing a dirt path that penetrates the woods (near Villa Falconieri) and passing the Monte Porzio-Tuscolo provincial road, you reach the avenue leading to the Camaldolese hermitage. Here begins the path that leads to the impressive ruins of Tuscolo, one of the most important Roman and medieval settlements in the area, evidenced by the Roman theater, the forum and the striking Via dei Sepolcri, continuing along the Roman paving of the ancient Tuscolana road that connected Tuscolo to Rome.
It is possible to climb to the summit of Mount Tuscolo, where there is a large panoramic cross overlooking the valley. From here you can enjoy a breathtaking view that sweeps over the neighboring hills.
In autumn you can admire the beauty of the foliage, with mushrooms (not to be picked), chestnuts and other wonders of nature.
Food court

Near the cross is a picnic area equipped with space for barbecues, ideal for a relaxing break surrounded by greenery after the walk, making this route also perfect for families and groups.
The route thus offers a combination of natural beauty, ancient history and outdoor recreational opportunities and is one of the best ways to discover the treasures of the Castelli Romani while walking among views and traces of a glorious past.
