If you are planning a visit to Rome, hurry up: you still have a few days to admire the iconic Trevi Fountain for free. Starting in January, once the Jubilee period is over and Christmas has passed, access to this famous monument will become chargeable for nonresident visitors.
Update: Fanpage reports that Roma Capitale sources confirm that it is a solution, that of charging admission from 2026, on which “the Capitoline Administration has been reasoning for some time,” but on which no “decisions have yet been made on the matter.”
How will access to the Fountain work?
Those from Rome are used to seeing crowds of people in front of the famous fountain. Romantic declarations, expressed wishes and souvenir photos … but from January the view may change, especially regarding the amount of people in front of the attraction, which sometimes makes it difficult to quietly enjoy the experience.
A fee of two euros will be charged for admission. Tickets will be available for purchase directly at the turnstiles, with the option of paying via ATM as well. Residents of the Capital will continue to have free access via a fast track.
The proceeds, as FanPage reports, will not go to the generic municipal treasury, but will be reinvested in city improvement projects, such as environmental redevelopment, upgrading of public transportation, and restoration of other historic fountains, with the intention of making Rome more welcoming for all.

Improving the Experience
The decision to introduce an entrance fee, long discussed and strongly advocated by the administration, follows an initial phase of quotas that proved effective in regulating the huge influx of tourists.
This monument, among the most visited in Rome along with the Colosseum, is notorious for being crowded, often making it difficult to even take a simple photo. The introduction of the entrance fee aims not only to generate funds for urban redevelopment, but also to regulate access, turning the visit into a more serene and pleasant experience for the thousands of tourists who admire it every day.
