There’s a moment, usually around mid-July, when your body demands a break. Rome is sweltering, the pace never lets up, and you just want to unplug for a few hours.
Exactly one hour from the city, on Monte Livata, the perfect place for this has opened: a spa near Rome designed specifically for that moment. Amid water, therapeutic heat, and silence, everything else stays outside the door.
It’s not a refuge from the heat through icy cold—that’s what the sea is for. It’s the opposite: a warm yet rejuvenating place that gets you back on track.
It opened on April 16: Rome’s mountain of wellness, completely renovated
The news is that Monte Livata—what Romans call “Rome’s mountain,” the only ski resort in the capital’s metropolitan area, in the heart of the Simbruini Mountains —once again has its wellness retreat. On April 16, 2026, the completely renovated Hotel Livata Mountain Wellness opened its doors.
It’s a retreat nestled in nature, just an hour from Rome: a place where time slows down and noise gives way to silence, where every experience is an invitation to pause. You’re enveloped by the purifying warmth of the spa, welcomed by cuisine that blends tradition and creativity, and surrounded by the tranquility of the mountains amid forests, sports, and moments of pure relaxation.
In short, after its renovation, it’s no longer just a mountain hotel: it’s designed to welcome you and help you regain your balance—something that seems like a mirage in the city during July .
Inside the spa: a heated pool, steam rooms, and three Finnish saunas in the woods

The heart of the facility is the wellness area, and it’s all about warmth. Inside , you’ll find a heated indoor pool, a sauna, a hammam, and a Kneipp path, plus rooms for massages and customized treatments.
And outside: three heated Finnish tubs, wooden barrels filled with hot water where you can soak while surrounded only by beech trees and the fresh mountain air. The old hot-and-cold game of the thermal baths, in a forest setting.

How much does it cost and how to book your session
The good news for those not staying overnight: the spa is also open to non-guests. Access is restricted to adults, requires a reservation, and is organized into two-hour sessions between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
How to get there from Rome
🚗 By car. From the Raccordo, take the A24 Rome–L’Aquila, exit at Vicovaro-Mandela, then take the SS5 Tiburtina Valeria and SR411 Sublacense to Subiaco; from there, head up toward Monte Livata following the signs until you reach Viale dei Boschi. From Rome, it’s about an hour and a quarter.
🚌 By bus. Take the Cotral bus from Ponte Mammolo (Metro B terminus) to Subiaco, about an hour, then transfer to the Cotral bus heading up toward Campo dell’Osso; there are only a few trips a day, so it’s best to check the updated schedule before leaving.
