The reasons for the recognition
Rome was honored for its ability to offer unique experiences that go beyond traditional tourism. The city stands out for:
- History and culture: It is described as a place where one can “walk through the history of the West,” thanks to iconic sites such as the Colosseum, the Pantheon and St. Peter’s Basilica. This has allowed it to be ranked fourth globally for attractions and monuments
- Livability and lovability indexes: Rome ranks fifth globally for both “livability” (quality of life) and “lovability” (cultural and emotional appeal), demonstrating that it is a welcoming city for both residents and visitors
- Museums and global reviews: It is sixth in the world for its museums and second only to London in the subcategory of reviews on Tripadvisor
Mayor Roberto Gualtieri enthusiastically welcomed the result, noting that Rome is regaining the international role it deserves. He attributed this success to tourism attraction policies and investments in major works and events, which are transforming the city into a modern and globally competitive metropolis. Councillor Alessandro Onorato also highlighted the positive impact on the local economy and employment resulting from this recognition.
Rome’s jump from 11th to 6th place reflects not only its historical and cultural heritage, but also recent efforts to improve infrastructure, services and tourist attractiveness.
