In September, the historic Peace Bar, located a few steps from the Chiostro del Bramante, reopened to the public. After eight years of closure and major renovations, this iconic venue has been transformed into an all-day bistro café.
Officially opened in 1891, Bar della Pace is one of the most celebrated historic businesses in downtown Rome. Over time, it was a gathering place for VIPs, actors, politicians, intellectuals and artists until the 2000s. In fact, various photos featuring public figures can be found on the venue’s old Facebook page. It was managed by the Serafini family from 1961 until its closure in 2016.
The closure was caused by an eviction notice issued by the Pontifical Teutonic Institute St. Mary of the Soul, owner of the building, which was planning to build a hotel.
Today, under the management of the company Caffè della Pace Srl, incorporated in 2023, the café has been transformed from the interior to the exterior, where there are umbrellas and seating to welcome customers. It still retains the charm of its counter and location.

The breakfast offering is extensive and also includes centrifuges and different types of coffee. At lunch and dinner, traditional Roman dishes triumph, such as carbonara or cacio e pepe, as well as soups, salads, pinse and focaccia.
There is no shortage of drinks for aperitifs and snacks throughout the day. At Bar della Pace you will also find grilled meats, with the innovation of the charcoal oven, and every Tuesday there is DJ Giovannino from 5 to 8 p.m. and 11 p.m.
We can say that the historic venue, once a gathering place for artists and intellectuals, is ready to welcome guests again to its indoor and outdoor rooms.
