The Bonaparte Palace, having finished the Botero exhibition, is preparing to host another fascinating exhibition,“Munch. The Inner Cry,” dedicated to the famous Norwegian painter Edvard Munch. The exhibition traces the artist’s entire career, from his naturalistic beginnings in the 1880s to his death in 1944. It focuses on the author’s artistic evolution towards a visionary and expressionist style, characterized by melancholic tones and intense symbolism.
Everything you need to know about the Munch exhibition in Rome
The exhibition, as we mentioned, will be hosted at the Palazzo Bonaparte, from February 11 to June 2, 2025 (it could be a good Valentine’s Day gift for art lovers). It is one of the most eagerly awaited exhibitions of the year, produced in collaboration with the MUNCH Museum in Oslo and Arthemisia, under the patronage of the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Rome and the Italian Ministry of Culture.
Features of the Exhibition.
The retrospective presents about 100 works, including paintings, drawings and prints, from the MUNCH Museum in Oslo. Some of the most iconic masterpieces include:
- A lithographic version of The Scream (1895)
- The Death of Marat (1907)
- Starry Night (1922-1924)
- The Girls on the Bridge (1927)
- Melancholy (1900-1901)
- Dance on the Beach (1904)
Curated by Patricia G. Berman, an art historian and expert on Munch, the exhibition sheds light on the painter’s human and artistic journey, exploring central themes such as life, death, fear and illness.
