“Farewell beloved barge, it’s been 10 beautiful years,” so write on a Facebook post the managers of the Lian Club in Rome, on the Tiber. The comments are many, all from people reminiscing about the good times they had in the Lian, but there are also those who ask why it closed.“Very complicated to explain here…” is the manager’s response.
A little more about the Lian Club
The Lian was a unique club in Rome, located on a floating barge moored along the Tiber River, specifically at Lungotevere dei Mellini 7, under the Cavour Bridge. This multifunctional space was known for its atmospheric atmosphere and varied artistic programming, which included live concerts and DJ sets, with musical genres ranging from jazz to rhythm & blues to art music.
The venue covered an area of about 600 square meters, with an indoor part equipped with a stage and a panoramic veranda. The upper terrace was perfect for events during warm weather, offering a breathtaking view of the Tiber River. It had a restaurant and cocktail bar area, where aperitifs or dinners could be enjoyed. In addition, private events such as graduation parties or birthdays could be organized.
The club regularly hosted live concerts and DJ sets, with programming covering much of the year, especially in the warmer seasons due to the use of outdoor spaces.
The new opening
The Lian’s story, however, does not end there. On Dec. 13, 2024, the Lian’s farmhouse will be inaugurated in Talenti/Montesacro alto, on Via Nomentana.“Music will be the heart as always but there will also be risto, cocktail bar and all the art imaginable in large indoor spaces with our usual warm atmosphere and a fabulous garden for the summertime! Let the new one begin folks,” reads the venue’s Facebook page.
