After years of plans, discussions, and dreams of a subway in Tor Vergata, another project is taking shape: Line G. The go-ahead has arrived for the section on Sorbonne Avenue, where a 275-meter viaduct worth 17.6 million euros will be built, designed to provide safer and more direct access to the university campus and the Polyclinic, avoiding the level crossing of the avenue.
One important detail: the streetcar stop will be called “Cambridge-Policlinico di Tor Vergata,” since it is about 900 meters from the hospital’s main entrance.
The project also includes a redevelopment of the old Termini-Giardinetti railway, which will be transformed into a modern tramway line, with the aim of making travel between the center and eastern suburbs of the capital faster, safer and more sustainable, especially in view of major events.
Line G is scheduled for completion between late 2026 and the summer of 2027. Given the current timeline and the latest updates, the G Line is expected to be operational by mid-2027.
