It’s summer, and the desire to be outdoors during the cooler hours of the day is in the air. Less than two months ago, a new escape from the city’s concrete jungle emerged in the Marconi neighborhood. The Fleur Garden nursery transformed at sunset into Flor de Maga, a pop-up botanical cocktail bar that aims to bring the atmosphere of Puerto Rico to Rome.
A trip to the Caribbean at sunset
The project brings together the expertise of three Roman professionals: Marco Pelliccia (Fleur Garden), Elisa Bonafede (Niji), and Daniele Fadda (Santo Trastevere). The result is a venue that operates exclusively outdoors, where greenery isn’t just part of the decor but the centerpiece of the experience.
Amid palm trees, banana trees, ferns, and bamboo, guests enter through a nursery and are welcomed into a garden adorned with a small pink wooden cottage—a tribute to Puerto Rican pop culture. The tropical atmosphere is accompanied by DJ sets with Latin influences during the week, live music on Fridays, and even mariachi performances.
A look at the menu
The cocktail menu, deliberately fresh and straightforward, features five reimagined versions of classic cocktails. For example, there’s the Elegguà, a burst of freshness made with vodka, cucumber, lime, and cardamom.
The food menu eschews formality and focuses entirely on conviviality, offering a selection of tapas perfect for sharing, tacos, maritozzo stuffed with pulled pork, seafood catalana, and brioche with anchovies. Those who don’t eat meat or fish can order chickpea hummus, caponata, and platters of vegetables and cheeses.
