What is “We Call It Flamenco?”
Although flamenco originated in Spain, and of course some of the most famous flamenco artists come from Andalusia, this art form is extremely popular all over the world, with flamenco institutes found in Mexico and even Japan. And this season, “We Call It Flamenco” will bring a special ode to its power to the city of Rome. The dancers’ movements and palmas play a key role in the show.
Flamenco, its palos and the show
The “palo” of flamenco has a very different meaning from its direct translation. Flamenco artists use the word “palo” to label the rhythm and style of singing, dancing or performing. And with over 50 palos to choose from, this experience is anything but a given.
After sitting in the Ghione Theater, you will be immersed in eight engaging performances. From the enchanting introduction with the most traditional and profound Spanish sounds to the section inspired by the Cantiñas of Cadiz and the improvised Solo de cante, the show will take you through fast-paced rhythms, bold styles, and much more.
