In Rome, nestled in a large green park along Viale di Porta Ardeatina, is La Casa del Jazz. Opened in 2005, it has become a cultural and musical landmark, dedicated to the dissemination of jazz in all its forms. It is not only a place to listen to music, but a true artistic and social laboratory that welcomes musicians, fans and students for concerts, educational events andculturalmeetings
The redevelopment of Villa Osio
The House of Jazz was born from the redevelopment of Villa Osio, which in the 1980s passed into the hands of Enrico Nicoletti, a notorious boss of the Banda della Magliana. Seized in 1996 and finally confiscated in 2001, the villa was entrusted to the City of Rome, which began a complex restoration project with the aim of transforming it into a cultural center dedicated to jazz. The House of Jazz was inaugurated in 2005. At its entrance is a plaque with the names of 683 mafia victims, the result of collaboration with the Libera association, which testifies to the rebirth of the place.
All the activities at the House of Jazz
The House of Jazz is dedicated to all shades of jazz, often offering live concerts with internationally renowned as well as emerging artists. Jazz is promoted here as an ever-evolving musical language capable of speaking to an audience of all ages and backgrounds.
In addition to concerts, in the 150-seat main auditorium or in the park during the summer months, the House of Jazz offers the opportunity to attend classes, participate in music workshops and seminars, visit the library and media library dedicated to jazz, and use the specialized bookstore and cafeteria. Musicians have access to rehearsal and recording rooms, a dedicated guesthouse and a restaurant. The entire complex is designed as a continuous meeting space for artists and audiences.
