What are the worst tourist attractions in the world? A study of the world’s most famous monuments and comments left by visitors ranked a major Roman monument among the three worst tourist attractions (can you believe it). A place in New York (Times Square) and another in Berlin (Checkpoint Charlie) ranked 1st and 2nd, while the Eiffel Tower ranked 3rd.
The most disappointing tourist sites
It is “mandatory” when traveling abroad: visit the must-see tourist attractions first! Every destination has its sites of interest, attracting thousands or even millions of visitors! Who, during his travels, has never climbed to the top of the Empire State Building in New York, walked on the Great Wall of China, or visited Buckingham Palace in London? And these sites, which are mandatory stops for tourists, can either dazzle or disappoint them!
A study conducted by Preply, an online language course platform, analyzed the “negative” comments left by these disappointed visitors on online review sites! The company analyzed the insincere and even highly critical comments of the top 80 tourism sites on the planet to determine which were the biggest “tourist traps.”
The result: two of the capital’s most iconic sites appear in the top 20 most overrated destinations!
Spanish Steps and the Colosseum in the top 20
Here is a study that will not please most Romans and dare we say even art historians. These two sites, which attract millions of visitors each year are also among the 20 most disappointing tourist attractions in the world.
It is the emblem of Rome, one of the most photographed monuments, yet it disappoints! Ranked as the 17th worst tourist attraction in the world, the Colosseum is far from satisfying all who visit it. Ditto, the beautiful Piazza di Spagna, which occupies 14th place.
