Steaming roasted chestnuts, new wine and popular music will fill one of the most charming villages in Lazio with fragrances and joy.
On Sunday, November 16, in the heart of Anguillara Sabazia, a village overlooking Lake Bracciano, “San Martino – Castagne e Vino” returns, the event that every year attracts visitors from all over the region to celebrate autumn with taste, music and tradition.
San Martino in Anguillara: the return of Lazio’s coziest festival.

The festive air is ready to invade the streets of Anguillara Sabazia’s historic center.
For a whole day, Piazza del Comune will be transformed into a big stage of taste: stands of local products, new wine, freshly roasted chestnuts and the overwhelming rhythms of Ale & Dany Passion Music, until the evening concert of Trio Monti, which will make the audience sing with true Roman-ness.
Organized by the Rione Castello Anguillara, under the patronage of the Pro Loco and the Municipality of Anguillara Sabazia, the Feast of St. Martin – Chestnuts and Wine celebrates autumn in its most authentic form: one made up of flavors, smiles and conviviality.
Scents of autumn among chestnuts and new wine
The tradition of St. Martin ‘s Day is rooted in peasant culture, when “must is made into wine” and thanks are given for the harvest.
The absolute stars of the day will be chestnuts, the undisputed queens of autumn, to be enjoyed hot and crunchy, accompanied by a good glass of vino novello.
An event that combines taste and folklore: visitors will be able to stroll through the streets of the medieval village of Anguillara, admire the stalls of local handicrafts and be won over by the scents that make this festival one of the most beloved in Lazio.
Anguillara Sabazia: the village on the lake that enchants

Overlooking the shores of Lake Bracciano, Anguillara Sabazia is without a doubt one of the most charming villages in Lazio.
Its historic center, perched on a scenic promontory, offers glimpses that seem to have come straight out of a painting: stone alleys, flower-filled balconies and the golden light of sunset reflecting off the water.
Strolling through its narrow streets during the festival of San Martino is an experience that goes beyond taste: it is a journey into the traditions, music and human warmth of a community that knows how to welcome.
It can be reached from Rome in less than an hour: a perfect excursion for those looking for a different weekend of good food and breathtaking views.
What to see in Anguillara Sabazia during the festival
Visiting Anguillara Sabazia on November 16, during the Feast of St. Martin, is a perfect opportunity to discover the village at its most authentic.
Between a caldarrosta and a glass of vino novello, it is worth devoting a few hours to discovering the historic center: a maze of alleys that rise up to the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Assunta, from which there is one of the most beautiful views of Lake Bracciano.
Descending toward the lake, one encounters the medieval Torrione, a symbol of the ancient fortified town, and the striking Porta Castello, where stone houses and craft stores tell the story of local history and traditions.
After a stroll along Anguillara’s lakeside prom enade, perhaps with a glass of red in hand and munching on a couple of chestnuts, you can make a stop at the Acqua Claudia Archaeological Park, which holds Roman springs and remains of aqueducts that are still visible.
And about 2 miles south of Anguillara is the beautiful St. Stephen’s Walls complex.
