A baroque palace filled with works of art
Before Italy became a republic, the palace was largely used to host royal officials and other prominent figures visiting Rome. However, shortly after its construction in the early 1600s, the palace’s first inhabitant was the famous art collector Cardinal Scipione Borghese, nephew of Pope Paul V.
This splendid palace is an example of 17th-century Roman Baroque architecture . Inside are frescoes and decorations of great artistic merit, including Guido Reni’s famous “L’Aurora” fresco, which covers the ceiling of the Sala dell’Aurora. The building takes its name from the Rospigliosi family whose property it became, and today it is mainly used as a conference center and location for evocative events.

The Rospigliosi Palace houses an important picture gallery, which boasts an extraordinary collection of more than 540 paintings and sculptures. Founded by Cardinal Lazzaro Pallavicini in 1600, the gallery is the second largest private art collection in the Italian capital. Works by Botticelli, Johann van Bloemen, Annibale Carracci, and other influential artists can be found in the gallery, whose interior was iinterally painted by 17th-century Flemish artist Paul Bril.
One of the palace’s main attractions, however, is the glittering Aurora Casino. Here, visitors can play poker and place bets inside the grand casino, designed by Dutch architect Vasantius. The splendid paintings adorning the walls tell mythological stories of love and death, and the magnificent facade is a sight to behold. In addition to visiting the magnificent art gallery and casino, the palace is home to the impressive Candlelight tribute concerts that, on select dates, light up the historic walls of this venue with thousands of candles.

Located in the heart of Rome, Palazzo Rospigliosi is within walking distance of some of the city’s iconic landmarks, such as the Quirinale Palace. The Trevi Fountain and the Colosseum are a 10- to 15-minute walk from the building, which is located at 43 Via Ventiquattro Maggio and is easily reached by bus on lines 40, 64, 170.

If you prefer to come by car, however, there is no parking for visitors to the Palace. If, however, you are a guest of the Hotel Antico Palazzo Rospigliosi, parking is available. In any case, due to the centrality of the location, there are multiple paid parkingfacilities not far away.
