Oktoberfest is the world’s largest and most famous beer festival, held annually in Munich, Germany, from the penultimate weekend of September until the first of October. It is a 16-day event that can be conveniently reached from the capital in September.
FS Treni Turistici Italiani, part of the FS Group, is offering a special connection with a direct express train from Roma Termini to Munich. This overnight service, called “Espresso Munich,” makes it possible to reach the famous beer festival without having to board a plane.
The event is held in the Theresienwiese, a large outdoor meadow that is transformed into a huge festival with stands serving traditional Bavarian beer, typical food, rides, music, folk dancing and lots of fun.
The origins of Oktoberfest date back to 1810, when a huge party was organized to celebrate the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. The event was so successful that it was repeated the following year and then became an annual tradition. Today it is the world’s largest popular beer festival.
