The year 2025 closes under the banner of success for Italian gastronomy, celebrated both for its profound cultural value and for its excellence in the rankings.
From UNESCO Heritage Site to World Podium: Italian Cuisine takes top spot
The prestigious recognition given by UNESCO to Italian Cuisine as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity officially consolidates the universal value of our tradition. As stressed by the Minister of Agriculture, Francesco Lollobrigida, this victory celebrates the country’s roots and ability to transform a cultural model – made of conviviality, care for raw materials, respect for territories and transmission of knowledge – into a global excellence. This title does not reward a single recipe, but the entire system of knowledge that links cuisine to national identity and the richness of Made in Italy.
“This award celebrates the strength of our culture, which is national identity, pride and vision,” explains Lollobrigida. ” Italian Cuisine is the story of all of us, of a people who have guarded their knowledge and transformed it into excellence, generation after generation.
Triumph in TasteAtlas World Rankings.
Cultural value translates into concrete success in international rankings. According to TasteAtlas‘ annual survey, based on user ratings, Italian cities dominate the global restaurant scene.
Naples and Milan are tied for first place, followed by Bologna. Six of the top ten positions worldwide are occupied by Italian cities. Rome confirms its role of excellence, taking ninth place globally with 4.74 points, testifying to the quality of its gastronomic offerings.
These results not only highlight the leadership of Italian Cuisine (ranked as the best in the world in the national category), but show that the “cuisine of the affections” is capable of winning over international palates and critics.
