Bar Far represents a bridge between Rome’s millennial history and the contemporary scene. Created as a site-specific installation and functioning bar, it is Villa Lontana’s calling card as it officially inaugurates its new space in the heart of Trastevere, at Via Garibaldi 68/69.
Between Via Cassia and Via Garibaldi
While Villa Lontana’s historic location remains a landmark along Via Cassia (a major artery in northern Rome, where the ancient coexists with modern buildings), the new space in Trastevere shortens the distance between the gallery and the urban public.
Inside, artists Clementine Keith-Roach and Christopher Page have transformed the architecture: their plaster reliefs seem to literally “grow” from the walls, merging with the structure itself to create an environment that is both a gallery and a meeting place.
The result is an environment that is at once church and tomb, prophecy and ruin, heaven and hell.
