Until December 8, reading enthusiasts can visit Più libri più liberi, the National Fair of Small and Medium-sized Publishers, hosted as every year at La Nuvola in Eur. The 2024 edition involves 597 exhibitors from all over Italy, who present their new publications and catalogs to the public. During the event, more than 700 appointments are held including meetings with authors, readings, debates and discussions with industry professionals.
The theme of this 23rd edition is “The Measure of the World,” a tribute to the 700th anniversary of the death of Marco Polo, author of The Million. The fair is promoted by the Italian Publishers Association with the support of institutional bodies such as the Ministry of Culture, Lazio Region, Roma Capitale and other partners. It is directed by Fabio Del Giudice, while Chiara Valerio curates the program.
Cultural program
Prominent among the main events are meetings with Italian and international authors. Topics such as feminism, racism and queer studies will be the focus of various meetings.
Among the Italians, Anna Foa will talk about The Suicide of Israel, while Aldo Simeone will present L’isola dei femminielli. There will also be reflections on historical and social issues, such as the meeting dedicated to The Measure of Women, with guests such as Maria Grazia Chiuri and Teresa Ciabatti.
Podcasts and collaborations
The official podcast of the fair, Una misura tira l’altra, curated by Chiara Valerio in episodes dedicated to symbolic units of measurement such as meter, light years and money, continues. In addition, Radio Sapienza reports on the fair through interviews and unpublished insights.
Literature for young people and comics
Great attention will be paid to children’s literature and the world of comics. Jenny Jägerfeld with her novel Grande, bro! Space will also be given to graphic novels with Daniele Mencarelli and Beatrice Bandiera.
Literary Awards
Several prestigious prizes will be awarded during the fair, including the Strega Ragazze e Ragazzi Prize, the Mastercard Literature Prize, and the Luigi Malerba Prize. In addition, the winners of the Tokyo-Rome Award and the Save Your Local Language Award will be announced.
